The Curriculum:

Qur’an recitation

The primary focus in this subject is placed on learning the skill of correct recitation of the Quran. This is given paramount importance at Al Misbaah Academy (AMA) Supplementary School. Students are coached closely until they master excellent pronunciation and achieve a high level of proficiency in implementing the rules of Tajweed. Students at Al Misbaah Academy (AMA) Supplementary School start their studies using the widely popular Hafs Qaa’idahs. Upon completing the syllabus and passing the assessments, student then have their first taste of the Qur’aan by working through Juzz Amma in Year 2 of their studies. From Year 3 to Year 7 students will then be taken through their studies of the entire Qur’aan In Sha Allah.

By the end of this training students will be able to read with full fluency when encountering substantial portions of Arabic text from the Qur’aan.

Students will also have reached the competency to be able approach unfamiliar sections of Qur’aan and recite impromptu whilst maintaining full implementation of the Tajweed rules.

Islamic Studies

Our syllabus provider Safar Academy has honed it’s Islamic Studies syllabus over the last 15 years from stories of the Prophets to 21st Century life. They have been shaped not only with and Islamic Theory, and Modern Educational input, but importantly practical feedback from teachers and students across the UK.

Key features of the syllabus:

  • Part of a curriculum: Islamic Studies series is that it is part of a curriculum composed of four parts, which cross-link with each other. The other three parts being Tajwīd, Memorisation and Arabic.
  • Cumulative Knowledge: The series aims to cumulatively build children’s essential Islamic knowledge, cultivate good character and instill God consciousness.
  • Core Subjects: Elements from all core subjects are covered in this book: Qurʾānic stories, Islamic tenets of faith (ʿaqīdah), religious rulings (fiqh) and major episodes from the life of Prophet Muḥammad, as well as areas of personal development, in an age-appropriate manner.
  • Extensive References: All textbooks contain extensive references from the Qurʾān and aḥādīth and all stories are always built only on material from Qurʿān and ḥadīth.
  • Fully illustrated: The full colour and illustrated editions have been developed to ensure that it is enjoyable for children as well as being comprehensive and reliable.
  • Clear Lessons: Special attention has been given to ensure that the content is not only relevant to children but that the lessons and morals are also comprehendible and engaging for each age category.
  • Cumulative Learning Path: All books in the series follow a cumulative learning path; a solid practical knowledge base is built before theoretical concepts are added and expanded upon.
  • Schemes of Work: Each textbook comes with schemes of work and also has a workbook with two tiers of assessment, based on Bloom’s Taxonomy of learning objectives.
  • Practical Lessons: Practical lessons have been clearly marked to ensure that different learning modes are utilised during teaching.
  • Clear Themes: To ensure gradual and logical progression, textbook lessons have been grouped into themes as well as containing Safar’s own week structures.
  • Reinforced Learning: Central elements, such as God consciousness and manners are constantly revisited throughout the series to ensure broadening of knowledge as well as reinforced learning..
  • Revision: All the textbooks contain sections dedicated to core revision as well as revising key concepts and content from the previous year.
  • Accompanying Workbooks: Workbooks have questions designed to encourage thought, expression and connection with the teaching material.

We are also proud to partner with Ilm 2 Amal through the implementation of their groundbreaking Islamic Studies Curriculum which focuses on financial and social literacy. Ilm 2 Amal are specialist in character development, and their high quality material aligns very closely with our vision and values and therefore is a vital resource at AMA.

Arabic

In addition to the reading of Arabic text, which is learned in any case, through the study of recitation of Quran, children will learn to write, speak and understand both Modern Arabic Language and classical Arabic. Thus bringing students closer to the word of Allah and leading to their recitation and salah becoming more meaningful.

In the early years children will start by gaining familiarity with reading and writing through fun and stimulating activities while gradually building a reserve of useful common vocabulary. The traditional system of learning Arabic script from the classic “Qaidah” books is replaced by alternative tailored resources which add the dimension of teaching useful vocabulary simultaneously. In the same way, the current practice of visual familiarity with text is supplemented with the learning of writing skills.

The overall desired outcome of the Arabic curriculum, once studied in its entirety, is that students will have a reasonable command over speaking and understanding modern spoken Arabic and will be able to read and write modern prose effectively to KS2 level or above.

Hifdh (Qur’aan Memorisation)

This is a comprehensive Programme for the memorisation of Qur’an including a complete Islamic Studies catering for students who are attending full time mainstream education.

Ibn ‘Amr reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wasallam) said:

“It will be said to the companion of the Qur’an after he has entered Paradise, ‘Recite, and rise!’ For every verse he recites he will rise one level (in Paradise),until he recites the last verse with him (i.e., in his memory).” (Abu Dawood)

  • Limited class size of 15 students
  • Dedicated Quran Knowledge classes that are complementary to the study of Hifz
  • Supported learning and a mentoring with memorisation skills training sessions

Due to the challenging nature of the regime that studying Hifz demands it is important that students, parents and teachers are all satisfied and confident that it can be adhered to successfully. It is for this reason that we have a fairly rigorous admission procedure as listed below.
